Cavan have an impressive role of honour for female sports stars. We encourage schools, clubs and groups to increase the visibility of their role models to encourage and inspire the next generation of athletes, leaders, coaches.

Leona Maguire - Professional Golfer

“Sport really has changed my life in so many ways and I’m so lucky to be able to play golf for a living. Thanks to golf I have been able to travel all over the world and make some of my closest friends along the way. Sport is such a great way to keep fit and have fun with your friends at the same time. Keeping active is so important for our physical and mental health and playing sport is the great way to keep us all feeling in top form. Get out there and play as many sports as you can, don’t be afraid to try new ones and most importantly, have fun doing it!”

Aishling Sheridan - Mullahoran, Cavan LGFA and Collingwood AFLW

"For me, I have found being involved in all different types of sport from a young age has helped me develop not only as an athlete but as a person too. Yes there may be times you don’t want to train but you’ll have some of the best memories with teammates that you’ll never forget."

Damien Donohoe from the 'We are Cavan' up with high flyer Aishling Sheridan after Collingwood made it six wins from six games. With Sport Ireland promoting women is sport after International women's day, Aishling tells us about the challenges she has faced and gives advice to young developing athletes

Leanne Kiernan - West Ham and Irish International Soccer Player

"Sport has been a huge part of my life so far. It has given me my dream job and helped shape me into the person I am today. I’ve met friends from all over the world! It has brought a great sense of happiness to myself and my family throughout the years!"

Ciara Tolan - East Cavan Eagles and Irish International Basketball Player

"I’ve played basketball since I was 7 years old. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing with my club, school and for Ireland. I remember the great games that we won and one or two that got away. But above all, I remember the friends i’ve played with and against. Thankfully, womens sport is starting to get the profile we deserve, and I’d encourage all girls to get involved."
