Case Study: NORA CONNELL

13 year old, Nora Connell started training in the Korean Martial Art of Taekwondo aged 4, before she even started school.

Nora’s brother Dominic had started Taekwondo lessons with Master John Gibson in Cootehill and Nora decided to join in. She progress through the grades and moved on to training in Kells twice a week under Grand Master Jaeung Shin, a Korean native.

Nora has competed in Taekwondo competitions here in Ireland as well as the UK, Portugal, France, Belgium and most recently South Korea. She has achieved a podium finish in every competition. There are two competitive areas in Taekwondo, Kyrougi (sparring) and Poomsae (patterns), and so far Nora is proving equally capable in both. She is currently a member of the National Poomsae Squad.

Nora’s Korean Instructor, Grand Master Shin has recently been deployed in Europe leaving Nora without a club. Nora is a 2nd Degree Kukkiwon certified Black Belt and her brother Dominic is a 3rd degree Black Belt so they decided to open their own club. In January 2020 they opened Lakelands Taekwondo in Bailieboro. It was a big commitment as Nora combined her school and homework with teaching 3 classes per week.

Nora has taken to her role as an junior instructor and her motto is “ a student wont always remember what you said but will always remember how you made them feel.
