Cavan Sports Partnership launched its Sports Inclusion Disability Programme in 2008. The Partnership appointed a Sports Inclusion Disability Officer (SIDO) with an aim to increase the participation of people with disabilities in sport, fitness and physical activity in Cavan. This is achieved through working in partnership with statutory agencies, sports clubs, community groups, facility providers, schools, disability service providers and people with disabilites.
The role of the SIDO was expanded in 2012 to include older adults and increase the participation of older adults in sports and physical activity in Cavan.
