Sports Inclusion

Cavan Sports Partnership runs a joint sports inclusion programme.

Sports Inclusion

Cavan Sports Partnership launched its Sports Inclusion Disability Programme in 2008. The Partnership appointed a Sports Inclusion Disability Officer (SIDO) with an aim to increase the participation of people with disabilities in sport, fitness and physical activity in Cavan. This is achieved through working in partnership with statutory agencies, sports clubs, community groups, facility providers, schools, disability service providers and people with disabilities.

The role of the SIDO was expanded in 2012 to include older adults and increase the participation of older adults in sports and physical activity in Cavan.

Objectives:

  • Sustainable Participation: To support sustainable participation opportunities for people with disabilities through the provision of quality initiatives, engaging with the existing clubs and the wider community.
  • Partnerships: To create effective partnerships to underpin the development of sustainable participation for people with disabilities in sport, fitness and physical activity.
  • Capacity Building: To encourage clubs and volunteers to support the participation of people with disabilities in sport, fitness and physical activity through the facilitation of training, information and awareness raising.
  • Awareness: To provide information and promote all opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in sustainable sport, fitness and physical activity at local, regional and national level.
