The Sports Coordinator  liaises closely with Sport Ireland to act as a conduit for information between national and local policy developments. The Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of the local sports strategy, developed in consultation with local organisations, community groups and sports clubs.

The sports strategy outlines the areas under policy, participation, governance, and communications that the LSP will work towards locally to provide opportunities for people to participate in sport and physical activity.

Janice Poyntz: 1st female president for Cavan Rugby Club

I first became part of co Cavan Rfc around 10 years ago when my eldest son decided he would like to try out rugby. At first as a parent I knew very few at the club and little did I know I was joining a new family and that the club would become such a big part of our family.

Initially as I did not know many rules of rugby I began helping out with catering after games this was a great way to get to know other parents and build some great friendships with likeminded people with same interests as I did. I then was asked to join to committee as secretary a few years later this gave me a great insight into how much work was involved to run a sports club such as co Cavan Rfc .

Then in 2019 I was asked to become the next president of the club. It was a great honour to become the First Lady president of co Cavan Rfc and hopefully the first of many. What I would say to women joining a club you don’t have to play the sport to become an important part of the club and what I have learned it takes many people to help  out to make it work it’s not all about what happens on the field there is a lot of little jobs can be done to help off the field also. Yours in rugby Janice Poyntz
